A Millennial Delves into Tribes

Tribes are a group of people who share different attributes - whether it be clothing, political views, musical taste, lifestyle, or a combination of these things. We have well known tribes - such as punks, but there are also less well known tribes - tribes which suit a very particular demographic.

Today, we were asked to identify our own tribe and come up with reasons why we belonged to it. I knew for me that this was going to be an issue...

My style varies from leather trousers, boots and band t-shirts to girly dresses with heels and sparkly hand bags. One side of me loves tattoos and piercings and showing individuality and the other side of me want's to be classic and timeless - like a Hepburn or Monroe. I know I am passionate in equality and what is right, in radiating positivity and being there for the people who need it.

But what tribe is this?

I call them the Mashups.

For the people who don't fit a certain group. Who one day wear Adidas trainers and a tracksuit and other days who look like they've come straight out of the film Clueless. It's for the people who don't necessarily want to be categorised and put into a certain group - who just want to express themselves.

I feel like more and more people are relating to my "Mashups" tribe as we all become less scared of expressive ourselves and trying new things/styles. Eventually, will tribes be such a thing? Or will we just be able to identify people because of their age group (Baby Boomer, Millennial etc). Just some food for thought...
